Public Invited to Comment on Ward Road Improvements from O’Brien to Chipman Roads

The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting a public meeting from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Strother Conference Room at City Hall, 220 SE Green St. Lee’s Summit, Mo., to discuss infrastructure improvements for the Ward Road corridor from O’Brien to Chipman roads. The meeting will allow the public to view preliminary plans and exhibits, review tentative schedules for right-of-way acquisition and construction, and provide feedback.

The Ward Road project improvements include roadway reconstruction to a two-lane section, one in each direction, with bicycle lanes and sidewalk along both sides.  Other improvements include curb and gutter, enclosed storm drainage, intersection improvements, continuous street lighting, new waterline infrastructure, and associated utility relocations.  The City anticipates these improvements will support the City’s Livable Street Policy and Bicycle Transportation Plan.  The project goals are improved safety, operations, and livability.

In addition to the Feb. 27 public meeting, the plans and exhibits will be available online and public comments may be submitted beginning Feb. 27, at https://cityofls.net/ward2. Online public comments will be accepted through March 13, 2025.

Construction is tentatively expected to start in late 2026. This project was approved by voters with the passage of the 2017 capital improvement sales tax initiative. The ½-cent capital improvement sales tax funds road, transportation-related and stormwater projects.

For questions about the project, contact the Public Works Department at publicworks@cityofls.net or 816.969.1800.
