Cultural Arts Grant Recipients Announced

 

Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street strives to promote, enhance, and preserve the heart of Lee’s Summit by cultivating a diverse mix of businesses, cultural and family-friendly events, unique housing options, and inclusive public spaces.

The funds awarded to Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street are in support of their family-friendly event Fourth Friday Art Walks, this event includes showcases from local artists and musical performances throughout Historic Downtown. These events take place from April through August each year.

 

                                                                                                

 

 Living up to their motto, Experience the Sound! The Lee’s Summit Symphony’s mission is to provide excellent musical experiences that enhance the quality of life for the community. They entertain thousands of guests throughout the year with their concerts which are held regularly at The Pavilion located at John Knox Village.

The funds awarded to the Lee’s Summit Symphony will benefit their 2024-2025 concert season. This season’s concert features are The Haunted Pavilion, Silver Screen Holiday, Watercolor Odyssey, and Swingin’ Summer.

Summit Art began in 2003 as a group of artists seeking acceptance and growth within the local community. Two decades later, this group has over 100 members and creates opportunities for all their artists to celebrate their works, develop their skills, and even network with potential collectors.

The funds awarded to Summit Art will be utilized to create more opportunities to showcase artists’ skills with gatherings, exhibitions, and continuing their programs such as the Summit Art Plein Art Festival, Paint Out, and the many workshops provided throughout the year.

Summit Theater Group was initially a small group of local performance artists who wanted to bring back the art to their community. Through the impressive work that was done Summit Theater Group is a notable arts organization for the City of Lee's Summit and that is showcased throughout their community efforts, programs, courses and shows. 

The funds awarded to the Summit Theater Group will be utilized to support the courses provided to community members as well as their 2024 - 2025 season.

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 8:57 a.m., Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to Summit Waves, 120 SW Blue Parkway, for a reported chemical spill.
