Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Rededication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Velie Park

Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation (LSPR) Park Board members and staff held a special rededication ceremony on Thursday, September 8th, as they officially opened Velie Park after its renovation. Park Board President Lawrence Bivins was on site to cut the ribbon. 

The various improvements of Velie park included:

 • Solar-powered parking lot lighting

• Playground equipment for ages 2-5 with shade structure

• Playground equipment for ages 5-12

• Outdoor Fitness Area

• 28 ft. hexagonal shelter 

• Realignment and reconstruction of the existing park trail

• Park benches

• Planting of additional trees

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 8:57 a.m., Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to Summit Waves, 120 SW Blue Parkway, for a reported chemical spill. Pool staff reported a leak and chemical smell from the wave pool building.  Crews arrived and evacuated the immediate area. The 21st Annual Tom Logan Memorial bike ride, Tour de Lakes, will take place on Saturday, Jun. 24, 2023. With great sadness, we announce the passing of Engineer Brad Faulkner. Brad collapsed at his son’s sporting event on Thursday, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Brad was a 19-year veteran assigned to A-Shift at Fire Station No. 3. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brad’s family, friends, and his fire department family.
