Lee’s Summit is Seeking Residents for Two New Commissions

Lee’s Summit is Seeking Residents for Two New Commissions

The City of Lee’s Summit is currently seeking residents to serve on two newly created commissions, the Cultural Commission and the Wellness Commission. The City’s commissions are supported by volunteers seeking to be involved in local government and meet on a regular basis.

The Cultural Commission will advise the City Council on recommendations regarding art and cultural programming, community aesthetics and historic preservation issues relevant to citizens and visitors. Key functions include advising and supporting the implementation of initiatives, working with other entities to encourage the incorporation of artistic, cultural, historic, tourism and beautification efforts, increasing public awareness of cultural and historical resources, and serving as the City’s historic preservation commission. Members should demonstrate interest and knowledge of history, humanities, fine art, performing art, natural resources or cultural resources.

The Wellness Commission advises and recommends plans, programs and projects that improve residents' health and well-being in alignment with the City’s 2020 Ignite Strategic Plan’s community health and well-being goals and objectives. Key functions include identifying and assessing the community’s mental and physical health and well-being, recommending strategies that bring awareness or address mental and physical well-being, advising community design that promotes safe and accessible walking and biking streetscapes and trail systems, and upholding the City’s Livable Streets Policy. Members should include representatives from outside groups whose mission and purpose are to meet residents’ health and wellness needs.

Terms for commission members are three years in length. Visit cityofls.net/boards-commissions to apply. The deadline for applications is Feb. 17.
