Public Meeting for Ward Road Improvements from Blue Parkway to O’Brien Road Set for Dec. 14

Online Public Meeting Also Offered Dec. 14 Through Jan. 14

The City of Lee’s Summit will host an in-person public meeting to discuss the design for the Ward Road Improvements project from Blue Parkway to O’Brien Road from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, in the Strother Conference Room at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green Street Lee’s Summit, Mo. The meeting will be an open house-style format and there will not be a formal presentation; the public can come and go as schedules allow. Project plans and exhibits prepared by the City’s design consultant Walter P. Moore and Associates, Inc. will be available to view, and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the project and offer comments.

An online public meeting format also will be offered from 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, and can be found at cityofLS.net/ward. During this timeframe the public will have the opportunity to review the same project plans and exhibits that will be available at the in-person event, and can submit comments or questions through the online public meeting website.

The project improvements include roadway reconstruction to a two-lane section, one in each direction, with bicycle lanes and sidewalk along both sides. Other improvements include curb and gutter, enclosed storm drainage, intersection improvements, continuous street lighting, new waterline infrastructure, and associated utility relocations. The City anticipates these improvements will support the City’s Livable Street Policy and Bicycle Transportation Plan. The project goals are improved safety, operations, and livability.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025, and the project is expected to take approximately twelve months to complete. Funding includes the Capital Improvement Sales Tax, a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) federal grant, and water and sewer funds.
