Lee’s Summit to Celebrate Missouri Good Neighbor Week Sept. 28 – Oct. 4

Lee’s Summit to Celebrate Missouri Good Neighbor Week Sept. 28 – Oct. 4

The City of Lee’s Summit is excited to join communities statewide in celebrating Missouri Good Neighbor Week, Sept. 28 - Oct. 4. The annual event honors the spirit of community and encourages residents to strengthen relationships with neighbors.

During Good Neighbor Week, citizens can get involved through various events and activities to foster community and goodwill. These may include:

  • Neighborhood clean-up days.
  • Block parties.
  • Performing acts of kindness.
  • Recognizing good neighbors.

Being a good neighbor and developing relationships can have many health benefits including improved mental, physical and heart health, increased life expectancy and reduced loneliness. A recent study showed that people who know six or more of their neighbors have decreased levels of social isolation and loneliness compared to people who do not.

During Missouri Good Neighbor Week, citizens can honor neighbors who go above and beyond by nominating them online. All nominees will receive a small gift and their nomination will be considered for state and county prizes.

In 2023, 19,778 acts of neighboring were reported for the week! Plan an activity or event and report it online to be entered in a random drawing for prizes. Reporting will be open Sept. 28 - Oct. 6.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter established Sept. 28 as National Good Neighbor Day by presidential proclamation. Governor Parson signed legislation in 2022 establishing Sept. 28 as Missouri Good Neighbor Day and the six subsequent days as Missouri Good Neighbor Week.
