Slices of Heaven

Having grown up in the northeast and then moving to Florida as an adult, Gray was surprised to discover, as far as he could tell, that no one in Florida had ever rendered oranges in a giant, sculptural form. The bounty of the earth inspires slices of Heaven and it symbolizes blooming flowers and the rising sun.

Craig Gray’s approach to making public art includes weaving stories and community connections. In the past four years, he has created and placed over 35 sculptures across the United States. The locations read like a long-haul trucker’s logbook: Clearwater, FL; Johnson City, TN; Woodstock, VA; Chicago, IL; Jackson, WY; Newport Beach, CA; and now Lawrence, KS.

City Crews Plowing and Treating Streets Today, Wednesday, February 19

The City’s crews are plowing and treating streets today, Wednesday, February 19. Crews completed primary streets, are finishing up secondary streets, and will be moving into residential streets later this morning. Extremely cold temperatures are limiting the effectiveness of salt treatments, and streets will remain packed with snow even after being plowed and treated.

Public Invited to Comment on Ward Road Improvements from O’Brien to Chipman Roads

The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting a public meeting from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Strother Conference Room at City Hall, 220 SE Green St. Lee’s Summit, Mo., to discuss infrastructure improvements for the Ward Road corridor from O’Brien to Chipman roads. The meeting will allow the public to view preliminary plans and exhibits, review tentative schedules for right-of-way acquisition and construction, and provide feedback.
