Lee’s Summit Water Utilities Department Achieves American Public Works Association Accreditation

Lee’s Summit Water Utilities Department Achieves American Public Works Association Accreditation

Lee’s Summit Water Utilities is proud to announce it recently received full accreditation from the American Public Works Association. This accreditation formally verifies and recognizes that Water Utilities complies with the recommended management practices set forth by the American Public Works Association.

Accreditation aims to promote excellence in the operations and management of a public works agency and its employees. Accreditation is designed to assist the agency in continuously improving operations and management, providing a valid and objective evaluation of agency programs as a service to the public.

Open to all governmental agencies with responsibilities for public works functions, initial accreditation from APWA is for a four-year period. Semi-annual updates will be required to demonstrate continuing compliance. At a later time, there is a re-accreditation process built on the original accreditation, encouraging continuous improvement and compliance with newly identified practices.

“Receiving this accreditation is a tremendous honor for Water Utilities and the City,” Director of Water Utilities Mark Schaufler said. “This accomplishment not only highlights the exceptional efforts of our employees but also underscores our commitment to continuous improvement, dedication and excellence as we continue to provide top-tier services to our community.”

Lee’s Summit Water Utilities is one of only nine agencies in Missouri that have received APWA accreditation. In addition to Water Utilities, the City’s Public Works is also APWA accredited.
