Lee’s Summit Recognized as Bicycle Friendly Community

Lee’s Summit Recognized as Bicycle Friendly Community

The City of Lee’s Summit is celebrating the renewal of its bronze-level designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. Lee’s Summit was among 37 communities to receive recognition during this award round as a community committed to creating a safer environment for bicyclists of all ages to enjoy. The City will retain its designation through 2025.

“The Bicycle Friendly Community designation demonstrates our community’s continued progress to improve the bicycling environment,” said City Traffic Engineer Michael Park.  “The process of becoming a more bicycle friendly community was initiated in the LS360 Strategic Plan and remains in alignment with multiple goals identified in the City’s updated strategic plan – Ignite! Your Ideas. Our Future.”

Lee’s Summit is one of only nine cities in Missouri to receive the Bicycle Friendly Community designation. The League of American Bicyclists analyzes communities based on investments in bike education programs, regular bike events that promote and encourage people to choose biking, pro-bike policies and bike infrastructure.

The League of American Bicyclists is a national recognition program developed to define standards and share best practices to encourage cities across the United States to prioritize safer bicycling environments. For more information, contact Public Works at publicworks@cityofLS.net or 969-1800.
