Spring cleanup season is here — but burning leaves and other yard waste is prohibited within Lee's Summit city limits. Fire pits, patio fireplaces, and other open-flame appliances may not be used to burn yard waste. Those appliances may be used only with seasoned firewood. A structure fire on Thursday, October 2, 2025, caused extensive damage to a home in the 100 block of NE Maple Street. The Lee's Summit Fire Department responded at 5:14 p.m. after multiple people driving by reported smoke coming from the roof vents of the residence.
