REVISED MoDOT Update: Closures on MO 291 and U.S. 50 in Lee's Summit for bridge replacement operations Now - November 2026

Projects: Missouri Route 291 North and U.S. Route 50 Interchange Improvements in Jackson

JACKSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will conduct various closures and traffic modifications on Missouri Route 291 and U.S. MO 50 for bridge replacement operations. All work is weather permitting. See below for traffic modifications:

Friday, Aug. 14 - Saturday Aug. 15 between 7:00am-3:00pm

  • Various lane closures on north and southbound MO 291 from SE Oldham to North of Bayberry.

Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 9:00am

  • Place traffic on the new Blue Parkway east and west of MO 291.

Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 12:00pm until Friday, Nov. 13 at 5:00pm

  • Close southbound MO 291 from Blue Parkway to the south side of U.S. 50. Motorists are encouraged to utilize Blue Parkway to Todd George.

Added: Wed., Aug. 19 7:00 p.m. until Thu., Aug. 20 6:00 a.m.

  • Close the right lane on WB U.S. 50 from west of Todd George to MO 291.

Added: Thu., Aug. 20 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

  • Close the ramp from MO 291 to WB U.S. 50.

Added: Thu., Aug. 20 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

  • Close the ramp from MO 291 to EB U.S. 50.

Added: Thu., Aug. 20 at 8:00 p.m. until Fri., Aug. 21 at 6:00 a.m.

  • Close the right lane on EB U.S. 50 from MO 291 south (Jefferson St) to MO 291 and close the EB off ramp to MO 291.

Fri., Sep. 11 at 10:00 a.m. until Fri., Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m.

  • Close NB MO 291 from the south side of U.S. 50 to the north side of U.S. 50.

Fri., Sep. 11 at 3:00 p.m.

  • Open WB U.S. 50 to MO 291 (Right Turn Movement Only).

Fri., Sep. 11 between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

  • Close the right lane on WB U.S. 50 from west of Todd George to west of MO 291.
  • Close the left lane on EB U.S. 50 west of MO 291 to east of MO 291.

Fri., Sept. 11 at 10:00 p.m. until Mon., Sept. 14 at 6:00 a.m.

Bridge demo traffic modifications:

  • Close the left lane on WB U.S. 50 west of Todd George to the WB U.S. 50 off ramp. Traffic will be diverted to go up and over the ramp back to U.S. 50.
  • Close the left lane on EB U.S. 50 west of MO 291 to the MO 291 off ramp. Traffic will be diverted to go up and over the ramp back to U.S. 50.

This is part of a larger project at MO 291N and U.S. 50, which includes bridge replacement, road realignment, and ADA improvements from SE 7th Terrace to SE Oldham Parkway in Lee’s Summit with a completion date of January 2027. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can also be short-term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris form the roadway.

City Crews Completed Snow Operations Today, Sun., Nov. 26

The City’s crews completed snow operations mid-morning today, Sunday, Nov. 26. Crews worked overnight into mid-morning treating primary and secondary streets with salt. Melting due to warming pavement temperatures and sun will continue throughout the day. Drivers should watch for areas of refreezing overnight and especially during the Monday morning commute.
