REVISED MoDOT Update: Closures on MO 291 and U.S. 50 in Lee's Summit for bridge replacement operations Now - November 2026

Project: Missouri Route 291 North and U.S. Route 50 Interchange Improvements in Jackson

JACKSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will conduct various closures and traffic modifications on Missouri Route 291 and U.S. MO 50 for bridge replacement operations. All work is weather permitting. See below for traffic modifications (all times listed are approximate):

Additional dates and modifications added

Friday, Aug. 14 - Saturday Aug. 15 between 7:00am-3:00pm

  • Various lane closures on north and southbound MO 291 from SE Oldham to North of Bayberry.

Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 9:00am

  • Place traffic on the new Blue Parkway east and west of MO 291.

Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 12:00pm until Friday, Nov. 13 at 5:00pm

  • Close southbound MO 291 from Blue Parkway to the south side of U.S. 50. Motorists are encouraged to utilize Blue Parkway to Todd George.

Added: Wed., Aug. 19 7:00 p.m. until Thu., Aug. 20 6:00 a.m.

  • Close the right lane on WB U.S. 50 from west of Todd George to MO 291.

Added: Thu., Aug. 20 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

  • Close the ramp from MO 291 to WB U.S. 50.

Added: Thu., Aug. 20 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

  • Close the ramp from MO 291 to EB U.S. 50.

Added: Thu., Aug. 20 at 8:00 p.m. until Fri., Aug. 21 at 6:00 a.m.

  • Close the right lane on EB U.S. 50 from MO 291 south (Jefferson St) to MO 291 and close the EB off ramp to MO 291.

Added 8/25/26: (TODAY) Tuesday, August 25 at 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

  • Close the right lane on NB 291 from SE Oldham to South of Blue Parkway.
  • Close the right lane on SB 291 from Bayberry to 50 Highway.

Added 8/25/26: The Missouri Department of Transportation will CLOSE the ramp from MO 291 to westbound U.S. 50 in Lee’s Summit for bridge project operations beginning tomorrow, Aug. 26 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. All work is weather permitting.

Fri., Sep. 11 at 10:00 a.m. until Fri., Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m.

  • Close NB MO 291 from the south side of U.S. 50 to the north side of U.S. 50.

Fri., Sep. 11 at 3:00 p.m.

  • Open WB U.S. 50 to MO 291 (Right Turn Movement Only).

Fri., Sep. 11 between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

  • Close the right lane on WB U.S. 50 from west of Todd George to west of MO 291.
  • Close the left lane on EB U.S. 50 west of MO 291 to east of MO 291.

 

Tues. Sept. 8, at 4:00 a.m. until Fri. Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m.

  • Close NB 291 from Oldham to Blue Parkway
  • Close SB 291 from Blue Parkway to Oldham

Tues. Sept. 8 at 4:00 a.m. until Mon. Sept. 14 at 5:00 p.m.

  • Close the Right Lane EB U.S. 50 from Jefferson to NB MO 291
  • Close ramp from EB U.S. 50 to NB MO 291
  • Close the acceleration lane on the ramp from MO 291 to EB U.S. 50 (barrier wall removal)
  • Close the acceleration lane on the ramp from MO 291 to WB U.S. 50 (barrier wall removal)

Mon. Sept. 14  from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

  • Various intermittent lane closures EB/WB U.S. 50 for striping operations

Fri., Sept. 11 at 10:00 p.m. until Mon., Sept. 14 at 6:00 a.m. REVISED: Mon. Sept. 14 at 10:00 p.m. until Mon. Sept. 21 at 6:00 a.m.

Bridge demo traffic modifications:

  • Close the left lane on WB U.S. 50 west of Todd George to the WB U.S. 50 off ramp. Traffic will be diverted to go up and over the ramp back to U.S. 50.
  • Close the left lane on EB U.S. 50 west of MO 291 to the MO 291 off ramp. Traffic will be diverted to go up and over the ramp back to U.S. 50.

Mon. Sept. 21 at 3:00 p.m. until Fri. Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m.

  • Various lane closures on EB/WB U.S. 50 at MO 291. The off ramps to MO 291 will be limited to right turns only.

This is part of a larger project at MO 291N and U.S. 50, which includes bridge replacement, road realignment, and ADA improvements from SE 7th Terrace to SE Oldham Parkway in Lee’s Summit with a completion date of January 2027. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can also be short-term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris form the roadway.

City Crews Set to Continue Plowing and Treating Residential Streets

The City's crews are set to continue plowing and treating residential streets today, Wednesday, Jan. 8, and overnight into Thursday, Jan. 9. Crews are 47% complete with residential streets, and 71% complete overall. The City’s crews plowed and treated residential streets today, Tuesday, Jan. 7, and are set to continue plowing and treating residential streets overnight into Wednesday, Jan. 8. Crews are 21% complete with residential streets, and 56% complete overall.  Parked vehicles on streets are slowing progress. Residents can help the snow control process by moving vehicles and other obstructions from streets.

The City’s crews are plowing and treating residential streets today, Tuesday, January 7. Crews are 100% complete with primary and secondary streets, and approximately 7% complete with residential. Overall as of 7 a.m. this morning, crews were 48% complete with snow operations. Crews will be working around the clock today and into tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, to plow and treat all residential streets.
