City Crews Preparing for Winter Storm

The City’s crews are preparing for a major winter storm which is expected to start on Saturday, Jan. 4, and will continue overnight into Sunday, Jan. 5. Ice, sleet, heavy snow, high winds, and low temperatures are all expected with this storm.

Crews pre-treated secondary and residential streets with salt today, Friday, Jan. 3, and will report at noon on Saturday, Jan. 4, to pre-treat primary streets. Ice and sleet are expected to start on Saturday afternoon/evening, and drivers should use caution at onset especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

Heavy snow is expected to start Sunday, and high winds may cause drifting which will require streets to be plowed multiple times. After accumulation ends, it may take crews more than 48 hours to plow and treat all streets. Due to the forecast for ice and low temperatures, streets will remain snow packed even after being plowed and treated.

Crews will continue to work around the clock to plow and treat streets as necessary, and are currently scheduled through Wednesday, Jan. 8. Residents can help the snow control process by removing obstructions such as vehicles, basketball hoops, and trash cans from streets.

The City will continue to monitor the forecast and will update its response accordingly.
