Section of NW Lake Drive Set to Close Thursday, April 30

Section of NW Lake Drive Set to Close Thursday, April 30

Beginning Thursday, April 30 (rescheduled from April 23), NW Lake Drive between Woods Chapel Road and Lakewood Boulevard will close to through traffic for approximately 15 days for the installation of speed humps and a raised crosswalk. The hard closure will be between Hickory Street and Greenview Drive by the Lakewood Aquatic Center, 4105 NW Lake Dr. The detour route includes Lakewood Boulevard, Lee’s Summit Road, and Woods Chapel Road.

The first phase includes construction of a speed hump approximately 100 yards to the north of the entrance to the Lakewood Aquatic Center, with access to the Lakewood Aquatic Center maintained from the south by way of Woods Chapel Road. The second phase includes construction of a raised crosswalk near the existing crosswalk and a speed hump approximately 100 yards south of the crosswalk, with access to the Lakewood Aquatic Center maintained from the north by way of Lakewood Boulevard. Each phase will take approximately one week. All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

Representatives of the Lakewood Property Owners Association approached the Lee’s Summit Public Works Department to address speeding concerns along NW Lake Drive as part of the City’s Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program. The City conducted a traffic study, and traffic calming was recommended at this location. The construction was timed to be completed after the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s Lee’s Summit Road realignment project, and before summer 2026.
