Section of SW 3rd Street Set to Close to Through Traffic Oct. 10

Update 2/28/23: Both eastbound and westbound lanes of SW 3rd Street from SW Blue Parkway to SW Jefferson Street are now open to through traffic. Utility work continues primarily in the center/middle lane as the crew is still proofing the pipe and pulling cables through the duct bank. This work is anticipated to be complete in two weeks, weather permitting.

A section of SW 3rd Street from SW Blue Parkway to SW Jefferson Street is set to close to through traffic beginning Mon., Oct. 10, 2022, through February 2023. Eastbound SW 3rd Street traffic will be detoured to SW Blue Parkway and westbound SW 3rd Street traffic will be detoured to SW 2nd Street. Local access will be maintained for SW 3rd Street business and property owners. All work is weather permitting and is subject to change.

This private utility work is necessary so an AT&T contractor can move a large duct bank prior to the construction of the 3rd Street Improvements Project - Blue Parkway to Jefferson Street, which is expected to start in early 2024. A section of NE Independence Avenue between NE Orchard Street and SE 2nd Street is set to close on Tuesday, April 28, for approximately two days for pavement restoration. The hard closure is between SE 2nd Street and 209 NE Independence Ave. The detour route includes NE Orchard Street, NE Grand Avenue, and SE 2nd Street.

A section of SW Robin Road north of SW 2nd Street is closed daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for installation of a gas main by a utility contractor. The work is permitted through April 16. The detour route is SW Donovan Road.

Beginning today, Monday, April 6, the northern intersection of Eagle Creek Drive and Pryor Road is now closed until mid-June 2026. Residents of Eagle Creek will use the southern intersection of Eagle Creek Drive and Pryor Road to travel south to Hook Road. Beginning Thursday, April 30 (rescheduled from April 23), NW Lake Drive between Woods Chapel Road and Lakewood Boulevard will close to through traffic for approximately 15 days for the installation of speed humps and a raised crosswalk. The hard closure will be between Hickory Street and Greenview Drive by the Lakewood Aquatic Center, 4105 NW Lake Dr. The detour route includes Lakewood Boulevard, Lee’s Summit Road, and Woods Chapel Road.
