City Preparing for Potential Freezing Rain Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 5

A City crew is scheduled to report at midnight to treat streets with salt before potential freezing rain tomorrow morning, Wednesday, February 5. Streets may become slick due to pavement temperatures being below freezing. Drivers should use caution during the morning commute, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Pavement temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by mid-morning Wednesday.

Intersection of Southwest Third and Jefferson Streets Set to Close Monday, February 24

Update: This closure is postponed until Monday, February 24, due to the forecast for snow and subfreezing temperatures the week of February 17.

The intersection of Southwest Third and Jefferson streets is set to close on Monday, February 24, and will remain closed until approximately early April. The closure is necessary for water main work and intersection improvements. Detour routes include Southwest Blue Parkway, Southwest Second Street, Southwest Market Street, and Southwest Fourth Street. Local access only is available west and east of the closure on Southwest Third Street, and to the north and south of the closure on Southwest Jefferson Street.

Green Street Project Update: Intersection of Southeast Third and Southeast Green Streets Now Open

The intersection of Southeast Third and Southeast Green streets is now open.

The section of Southeast Third Street between Southeast Green Street and Southeast Grand Avenue, as well as the intersection of Southeast Third and Southeast Johnson streets, remains closed until March. The detour route remains Southeast Douglas Street, Southeast Second Street, and Southeast Grand Avenue.

The closures are necessary for ongoing construction work related to the Green Street project.

Section of Southwest Sampson Road Set to Close Monday, Feb. 3

Update 3/11/25: The closure is now expected on March 19.  Update 1/30/25: The closure of Southwest Sampson Road has been postponed until further notice due to emergency access issues. A section of Southwest Sampson Road between Southwest Scherer and Southwest Hook roads is set to close to thru traffic on Monday, Feb. 3, and will remain closed until approximately mid-August, for two phases of the Sampson Road Stormwater Improvements project. Phase one includes culvert work just south of  Southwest Scherer Road, and is expected to last until early April. The detour route includes Southwest Scherer Road, Southwest Pryor Road, and Southwest Hook Road. All schedules are weather permitting and subject to change.

Section of Southwest Second Street Set to Close on Monday, Feb. 3

Update: This closure has been extended by one week and will open by 5 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025.

A section of Southwest Second Street between Southwest Noel and Market streets is set to close on Monday, Feb. 3, for one week. The closure is necessary for rehabilitation to failing sanitary sewer manholes located in the street. The detour route includes Southwest Noel Street, Southwest Third Street, and Southwest Market Street.
