New Trail Open at Legacy Park in Partnership with Urban Trail Company

Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation, in partnership with local non-profit Urban Trail Co., has opened a new trail at Legacy Park. The “1014 Loop” is a natural-surface, single-track trail for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running and is located along the northern and eastern portion of Legacy Park. The trail name is a reference to the highest elevation at Legacy Park.

Urban Trail Co. volunteers began trail layout in January 2019, with trail construction beginning a few months later. The three-mile trail is beginner-friendly for mountain biking as well as appealing for hikers and runners. "Though this trail will provide a great experience for kids or beginning mountain bikers, the park's topography offers plenty of opportunity for interesting features and elevation change," Todd Posson, Urban Trail Co. volunteer trail builder, said.

Urban Trail Co., a Kansas City-based non-profit organization, has designed and built trails with all-volunteer efforts in parks across the metro for more than fifteen years. "We're very grateful to Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation for welcoming trails," Posson said, "And for inviting us to participate in creating this natural amenity."

“Our community identified natural-surface trails as an important amenity in our 2016 revised strategic plan,” Joe Snook, Administrator for Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation, said. “We are excited to partner with the Urban Trail Co. on the addition of this natural-surface trail at Legacy Park, and we are very grateful for all the volunteers who worked hundreds of hours to make this trail a reality.”
