On Monday, January 15, 2024, at 4:45 p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 5800 Block of NW Plantation Lane. Multiple 911 calls from neighbors reported a car fire in the garage spreading to the fourplex and an explosion.
When the fire department arrived, the fire heavily involved an attached, single-car garage of a two-story fourplex. All building occupants were safe outside.
Firefighters quickly attacked the fire in the garage and the attic above it, containing the fire to the garage. A search of the structure confirmed that everyone was out, and there was no fire spread to the living area of the involved unit or adjacent units. The incident was under control by 5:06 p.m.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 4:20 p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 13000 Block East 99 Street near S. Noland Road. Several callers reported an explosion and black smoke coming from a building and a man on fire. The building is located at the border with Kansas City, MO, and units from the Kansas City Fire Department and Raytown Fire Protection District also responded.
When KCFD arrived, black smoke was visible from a large metal barn that stores underground utility equipment and houses several horses and other livestock. Employees near the building at the time of the explosion were assisting the man who had been on fire and removed the livestock.

On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 3:49 a.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1400 Block of SW Jefferson. The occupants called 911 after waking up to a popping noise and discovered smoke and fire in the living room.
When the fire department arrived, smoke was visible from the front door of a one-story, single-family residence. The occupants and dog were outside.
Firefighters entered the building and quickly extinguished a fire in the living room, containing the fire to the room of origin with moderate smoke damage throughout the remainder of the house. The incident was under control by 4:15 a.m.
The fire was electrical in origin, caused by the improper use of an extension cord with a space heater that failed and ignited nearby combustibles.
There were no working smoke alarms in the home.

The Lee’s Summit Fire Department proudly announces that Truck 3 went into service November 11 at Fire Station No. 3 as the second staffed fire apparatus in the station with Pumper 3, Med 3, and Chief 102, and is the first addition of a fire truck and crew since 2006. The ladder truck is an expansion apparatus approved through the 2019 No Tax Increase Bond Issue, along with the twelve personnel to staff it approved in the 2022 Public Safety Sales Tax initiative. The additional truck will significantly improve response resiliency and reliability in one of the busiest service areas of the City and add a ladder truck company to support operations throughout the City.
