Southeast Second Street Set to Reopen Friday, May 24; Section of Southeast Third Street Set to Close Tuesday, May 28

Update as of 7/2/24: Southeast Third Street is Now Open
Update as of 5/23/24: Southeast Second Street is Now Open

Southeast Second Street is set to reopen to through traffic by the end of the day on Friday, May 24, followed by the closure of a section of Southeast Third Street between Southeast Douglas and Southeast Johnson streets on Tuesday, May 28, for approximately six weeks. The closure is necessary for infrastructure work associated with the Downtown Market Plaza project. The detour route will be Southeast Grand Avenue, Southeast Second Street, and Southeast Douglas Street.

The Southeast Green Street entrance to the City Hall parking lot and garage will remain closed but is expected to reopen in time for the Downtown Days event scheduled for the second weekend in June.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

A section of northbound NE Rice Road is set to close on Wed., Jan. 31, for approximately two months. The contractor anticipates intermittent daily closures. The closure will be next to the retention pond and is necessary for stormwater pipe repair. The detour route is NE Langsford Road, M291 Hwy, and NE Columbus Street. A southbound closure and detour will be necessary at a later date. Work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

City Crews Completed Snow Operations Today, Mon., Jan. 22

The City’s crews completed snow operations early afternoon today, Mon., Jan. 22, after pavement temperatures rose above freezing and pavements were mostly wet. Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing for the rest of the week, and any remaining snow and ice pack should continue melting.

The City’s crews are treating streets today, Monday, Jan. 22, after freezing rain impacted the Lee’s Summit area. Additional crews were called in early this morning, and primary streets are completed. Crews are currently working in secondary streets. Streets are slick and drivers should use caution. Pavement temperatures are expected to warm above freezing after 10 a.m.

City Crews Scheduled to Treat Streets as Needed

The City’s crews are scheduled to report at 7 p.m. to treat streets with salt as needed tonight, Thurs., Jan. 18, and overnight into Fri., Jan. 19.
