Sections of NW Colbern Road and NW Blue Parkway Set to Close Sept. 5

A section of NW Colbern Road from approximately Missouri Route 350 to NE Douglas Street is set to close to through traffic on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and will remain closed until spring 2025, weather permitting. NW Blue Parkway from Interstate 470 to the roundabout at NW Colbern Road is also set to close to through traffic on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and will remain closed until spring 2024, weather permitting. The closures are necessary for construction as part of the Colbern Road Improvements project.

During phase one of the project, there will be a complete closure of NW Colbern Road from approximately Missouri Route 350 to east of the roundabout at NW Blue Parkway until spring 2024. The detour route is NE Douglas Street, Interstate 470, and Missouri Route 350. NW Blue Parkway from Interstate 470 to the roundabout at NW Colbern Road will also be closed to through traffic until spring 2024. NW Pryor Road remains open for local traffic. Phase one includes the reconstruction of the NW Colbern Road at NW Blue Parkway roundabout and the realignment of NW Blue Parkway from the roundabout at NW Colbern Road northwest to the frontage road along Unity Village. The contractor for the project is Clarkson Construction. 

After phase one is complete in spring 2024, NW Colbern Road from approximately Missouri Route 350 to east of the roundabout at NW Blue Parkway and NW Blue Parkway from Interstate 470 through the roundabout at NW Colbern Road will reopen to traffic; however, NW Colbern Road from Missouri Route 350 to NE Douglas Street will continue to remain closed to through traffic until spring 2025.

The Colbern Road Improvements project will widen NW Colbern Road to four lanes with turn lanes, sidewalk, shared-use path, curb and gutter, street lighting, and bridge replacement that includes bicycle and pedestrian accommodations over the Union Pacific Railroad. These safety and capacity improvements are necessary to accommodate existing traffic demand and planned property development. The total project cost is nearly $30 million with funding from a variety of sources including the City’s 2017 Capital Improvement Sales Tax renewal, a federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) grant, a state Governor’s Transportation Cost Share grant, and water and sewer funds.

The City's crews are scheduled to treat streets with salt as needed late Tuesday, Feb. 27, and overnight into early Wednesday, Feb. 28, as sleet and snow is forecast for the area.
