Surface Seal Set to Begin this Friday, June 6

Surface seal operations in Lee’s Summit are expected to begin on Friday, June 6, and will last for approximately one month, weather permitting. New this year, the City of Lee’s Summit’s contractor Vance Brothers will provide the latest schedule and surface seal information on their website: https://www.vancebrothers.com/project-schedules/. If a street is not completed as scheduled due to weather, mechanical delays, or other issues, it will be completed the following day, weather permitting.

Surface sealing involves placing a thin asphalt layer across the street, which is designed to extend the life of the pavement. Following installation, vehicles are prohibited from driving on the seal coat until the street is reopened two to three hours later. Residents impacted by surface seal receive a postcard notification in the mail, followed by a door hanger two days prior to the surface seal operation. Surface seal area maps are available on the City’s website or the CIP Dashboard under Surface Seal FY26.

A section of NW Main Street is set to close on Monday, June 22, for approximately three weeks.  The closure is just north of the Forest Avenue intersection. The detour route includes Orchard, Douglas, and Maple streets. Forest Avenue also will be closed to through traffic between Central and Douglas streets.

The section of Pryor Road between Longview and Scherer roads is expected to open to traffic by the end of the day tomorrow, Friday, June 19. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction, and it will remain an active construction zone with workers present so drivers should use caution. The posted detour will remain Longview, Ward, and Hook roads. The intersection of Pryor and Scherer roads will be a three-way stop.

A contractor is set to close the southbound section of SE Douglas Street between SE 1st and SE 2nd streets daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for pavement repairs. Work is permitted from Wednesday, June 17, through Friday, July 10; however, currently the contractor expects to begin mid-week the week of June 22. The detour route is SE 1st Street, SE Main Street, and SE 2nd Street.

A section of SW Raintree Drive at its intersection with SW Ward Road is set to close tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, for gas main repair/restoration. Northbound SW Ward Road traffic will shift to the middle lane, and eastbound SW Raintree Drive at SW Ward Road will be closed. The detour route includes SW Ward Road, SW County Line Road, and SW Raintree Drive.

The hard closure is between SE 2nd Street and 209 NE Independence Ave. The detour route includes NE Orchard Street, NE Grand Avenue, and SE 2nd Street.
