Lee’s Summit Snowplow Naming Contest Accepting Submissions

Lee’s Summit Snowplow Naming Contest Accepting Submissions

The City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department is inviting the community to participate in its first Snowplow Naming Contest. Residents can submit their unique and creative names for the City’s snowplows online at cityofLS.net/snowplow through Nov. 7. Winning entries will be announced Nov. 20 on the City’s social media and website. The new names will be placed on the City’s snow removal equipment that is in service during the upcoming 2023-2024 winter season.

The contest raises awareness of the snowplows and the importance of the work done by City crews to keep roadways safe. By naming the snowplows residents are more likely to recognize them on the roadways and know to steer clear.

During snow events, City crews manage more than 1,000 lane miles of streets and cul-de-sacs. For more information about the City of Lee’s Summit’s snow fighting operations, visit LSsnow.net.

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 11:43 am, the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 Block of NE Whispering Winds Court. A neighbor reported smoke coming from the townhome. When the fire department arrived, light smoke was visible from a two-story, four-unit townhome building. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 6, at 2 a.m. So as we set our clocks back, take the time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Also, check the date on your smoke alarms to ensure they are not more than ten years old, and replace them if they are. Smoke alarms save lives, but only if they work! You can also use the extra hour to make or practice your escape plan!

Reminding everyone the open burning of yard waste is prohibited. Including burning leaves in portable patio fireplaces or pits.

Due to the ongoing drought conditions, all open burning permits issued in the City of Lee's Summit remain suspended, and it is not recommended to use any other outdoor open-flame appliances.
