The City of Lee’s Summit Fire Department is looking for highly motivated applicants to fill current openings and create a hiring list for the position of Fire and EMS Emergency Dispatcher. This is a non-sworn position, officially titled Communications Specialist. The role involves working in a 24/7 communications center responsible for dispatching fire and medical services. As a dispatcher for the Lee's Summit Fire Department, you will also have the opportunity to dispatch for six other area agencies, including the Fort Osage Fire Protection District, Inter City Fire Protection District, Lone Jack Fire Protection District, Southern Jackson County Fire Protection District, Sni Valley Fire Protection District, and the Sugar Creek, MO Fire Department. Hotel Reoccupied After Small Fire in Wall

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (July 10, 2025) — The Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at the Quality Inn, located at 1020 SE Blue Parkway, at 1:01 p.m. An employee reported smoke in room 324, coming from a windowsill, prompting an evacuation of the hotel. Upon arrival, firefighters observed no visible flames outside the three-story, 63-room hotel, though the building’s alarms were sounding and guests were evacuating. Light smoke was present in room 324. Using a thermal imaging camera, firefighters located a smoldering fire in the wall next to the window, adjacent to the heating and cooling unit. They opened the wall around the window and extinguished the fire, which did not spread beyond that area. Firefighters searched the vicinity and found no additional hazards. Fireworks Related Fires in Lee's Summit

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — Overnight, the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to several fireworks-related fires. Crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 4:27 a.m. on July 5, 2025, in the 1100 block of SW Summit Hill Drive. A resident called 911 after being awakened by smoke alarms and discovering a fire burning on the outside of the house. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames near the garage door that had spread up the front of the two-story, single-family residence and were beginning to enter the attic through the roof's eave. The occupants were safe outside. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames on the house's exterior while other crews entered to extinguish the fire spreading into the attic and garage. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 3:43 p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 400 block of NW Moore Street. The occupant of a detached garage next to a single-family home called 911 to report the blaze. When firefighters arrived, they found the two-bay garage fully involved in fire, threatening the nearby home. The occupant and their dog were safe outside. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent house. The incident was reported under control by 3:59 p.m. The fire caused extensive damage to the garage and its contents, while the nearby home sustained only minor damage to its siding. The occupant was grinding in the garage when sparks ignited nearby combustibles. Their attempt to extinguish the fire was unsuccessful, leading them to call emergency services.
