Spark Ignites Garage

Spark Ignites Garage

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 3:43 p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 400 block of NW Moore Street. The occupant of a detached garage next to a single-family home called 911 to report the blaze.

When firefighters arrived, they found the two-bay garage fully involved in fire, threatening the nearby home. The occupant and their dog were safe outside.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent house. The incident was reported under control by 3:59 p.m.

The fire caused extensive damage to the garage and its contents, while the nearby home sustained only minor damage to its siding.

The occupant was grinding in the garage when sparks ignited nearby combustibles. Their attempt to extinguish the fire was unsuccessful, leading them to call emergency services.
