Lee’s Summit’s Community Development Block Grant Application Period Begins Jan. 4, 2022

The City of Lee’s Summit will accept applications for 2022-23 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding from Jan. 4 - Feb. 4, 2022, The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards federal grant funds to the City on an annual basis. These funds must be used to meet the needs of low-to-moderate income individuals and families, address slum or blight in Lee's Summit, or meet an urgent community need.

Lee's Summit is designated as an Entitlement Community under the CDBG program by HUD, which gives the City the authority to administer grant funds in our community. The City was awarded $355,770 for the 2021-22 program year. Grant funding for 2022-23 has yet to be announced. The program year is July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023.

Qualified agencies include public agencies and nonprofit organizations. For-profit organizations may also be eligible for consideration if the proposed programs or projects serve a public purpose and meet the national objectives, as well as the City’s CDBG Consolidated Plan objectives. Individuals are not eligible to apply.

Proposals and funding requests will be presented by applicants to the Community and Economic Development Committee (CEDC) at a public hearing in March 2022. At that time, the public will have an opportunity to provide feedback before the CEDC recommends a funding allocation plan to City Council for adoption.
