Sunday Morning Townhome Fire

Sunday Morning Townhome Fire

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 11:43 am, the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 Block of NE Whispering Winds Court. A neighbor reported smoke coming from the townhome.

When the fire department arrived, light smoke was visible from a two-story, four-unit townhome building. Several occupants had evacuated the building.

Fire crews forced entry into the townhome and found moderate smoke on the first floor. Crews quickly made their way to the second floor and located a well-involved bedroom fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire in the bedroom, keeping it from spreading to connecting units or the attic. A search confirmed that no one was home. The incident was under control by 12:23 pm. A check of all units confirmed that everyone was out or unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The fire originated in the second-floor bedroom and caused significant damage to the room with heavy heat and smoke damage to the second floor and varying amounts of smoke damage to the remainder of the townhome. The adjoining units of the building were not damaged and could be reoccupied.

The fire is considered accidental, but the exact cause is still undetermined.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident.
