Surface Seal Program

Surface Seal Program

Project Description:
Surface Sealing is a surface treatment designed to extend the life of existing pavements by filling surface cracks and voids, sealing weather tight, and adding texture and uniform appearance to the street. Surface Sealing uses a pre-mixed slurry of rock, polymer asphalt binders, cement and filler materials to seal the entire roadway at a depth of approximately 1/4 inch.

Project Rationale:
Surface Sealing is a pavement surface treatment designed to extend the life of existing pavements at about one-third to one-fourth the cost of milling and overlaying a street with new pavement. Timely application is necessary to extend the life of existing pavements (relate it to painting a house to keep the siding in good condition instead of letting the siding deteriorate to the point that it needs replacement).

Current Project Status:
The FY24 Surface Seal construction is complete.  Project maps have been posted.  This program is funded by the ½-cent Road & Bridge (Transportation) Sales Tax annually, as part of the City's Pavement Management Program. For more information on the City's Surface Seal Program please visit the Pavement Management Web Page. Typically, the annual Curb Repair Program construction takes place between June and October.
