If a leak is suspected in a private water system call 816.969.1900. A service technician will check the water meter for an indication of a leak. After 5 p.m., on weekends and holidays call 816.969.7407.

The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to announce Jeff Thorn's appointment as director of Water Utilities, effective March 20. Thorn replaces Mark Schaufler, who retired in February after serving the City for 31 years. Following a distinguished career of more than 40 years of public service, Director of Water Utilities Mark Schaufler has announced his retirement effective Feb. 3. Schaufler has led Lee’s Summit Water Utilities for the past 21 years, shaping it into a nationally accredited and award-winning agency committed to exceptional customer service and operational excellence.

Lee’s Summit Water Utilities Department Achieves American Public Works Association Accreditation

Lee’s Summit Water Utilities is proud to announce it recently received full accreditation from the American Public Works Association. This accreditation formally verifies and recognizes that Water Utilities complies with the recommended management practices set forth by the American Public Works Association.

Drinking Water Service Line Inventory

To ensure the safety of our drinking water supply, Lee’s Summit Water Utilities recently conducted an important initiative to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) mandated Lead and Copper Rule. This new rule requires that we identify and inventory the composition of all service lines within our distribution system across the City. This includes the publicly owned (water system-owned) and privately owned (customer-owned) portions of the service line to ensure we deliver safe and reliable drinking water. The inventory report was submitted to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) in October 2024 for compliance. If a service line is noted as lead, galvanized requiring replacement (GRR) or unknown, notification to the customer will be made by November 15, 2024.
