The City has prioritized strategic investments in its water and sewer infrastructure to address the needs of the City. Water Utilities continuously evaluates the water and sewer system for necessary repairs, replacements and corrections to minimize unplanned interruptions. Additionally, Water Utilities is constantly evolving to meet the needs of projected new development.
The projects detailed in the Capital Improvement Plan are expected to meet the needs identified through system maintenance evaluations and those associated with projected new development. These capital improvement projects are funded directly by rate charges and fees.

The Master Plan provides an evaluation of the existing water infrastructure for Lee's Summit. It makes recommendations for water supply and distribution systems and wasterwater infrastructure improvements to meet existing and future service needs.

The Strategic Plan is the result of a comprehensive assessment and a strategic planning process initiated by Water Utilities. The Strategic Plan is intended to move the utility from its current performance and service levels to an organization that provides services tailored to defined customer values and is responsive to future customer needs.
Strategic Plan
The Water Utilities portion of the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) details the five-year scheduling of water and wastewater infrastructure improvements and expansion projects. The plan aligns with the Water Utilities Strategic Plan and is based on the Water Master Plan and Wastewater (Sewer) Master Plan.
Water Utilities reassesses capital improvement goals and how to accomplish those goals each year. Every project has been considered for its financial feasibility, environmental impact, conformance to previously adopted plans, priorities established from the citizen input process via committees and voter approval, and to meet the public needs.
Capital Improvement Plan Status of Capital Projects
This sanitary sewer improvement project consists of upgrades to the Sewer Trunk Main within the Cedar Creek watershed that serves the internal core of the City. The project will improve approximately 5,000 linear feet of sewer main and requires a bore of US 50 Highway generally following the creek known as McClendon Ditch.
