Third Street Improvements Project

Blue Parkway to Jefferson Street

The City of Lee’s Summit is designing infrastructure improvements for the Third Street corridor from Blue Parkway to Jefferson Street, a project that was approved by voters with the passage of the 2017 sales tax initiative. The project goals are to enhance safety and improve connectivity, resulting in an inviting gateway corridor into historic downtown Lee’s Summit.

Currently, AT&T utility relocations are in progress and expected to last until February 2023, weather permitting.

General Project & Utility relocation Updates

Specific corridor improvements will likely include added pedestrian and cycling features such as a continuous sidewalk, multiuse path, and lighting; improved accessibility accommodations and compliance with current standards; improved or replaced pavement, curb, storm drainage, and water line infrastructure; utility relocations; and access management modifications such as driveway adjustments and consolidations.

These project investments will be impactful, yet beneficial to residents and businesses along the corridor, in adjacent neighborhoods, and community-wide. The City anticipates these improvements will promote economic activity and investment along Third Street and create an inviting gateway into the downtown business district. The project will also support the City’s Livable Streets Policy.
