Downtown Sculpture Walk

The City of Lee’s Summit thrives on our Arts, Culture and Heritage. In 2020 the Downtown Sculpture Walk was established to make art accessible to our citizens and visitors. The annual outdoor public art program features vibrant and unique three-dimensional artworks showcased within the public spaces in the downtown area. A jury of community members chooses the artworks created by acclaimed public artists from across the country and the region. These artworks are meant to inspire, entertain and educate while providing additional aesthetic elements to the public space. Sculptures are displayed on loan to the City for one year.

Strut

Andrew Arvanetes

Strut

Strut, 2020
Andrew Arvanetes, Kankakee, IL
Painted Aluminum
10’ x 4’ x 4’5”

The title "Strut" is a loose reference to the structural elements that connect the upper and lower portions of the composition. In addition, I see this sculpture as a mechanically figurative object that implies movement. If it could walk it would be with a "stiff and arrogant or conceited gait."

Using universal shapes and details Arvanetes molds them together to create whimsical works of art. These creations often use the shapes of homes, circles, and other shapes that make the artworks seem as if they are capable of movement, almost as if they could come alive.
