Municipal Judges

Dana M. Altieri

The Honorable Dana M. Altieri was elected municipal judge of the Lee's Summit Municipal Court in April 2010 and was reelected in 2022.

Judge Altieri is a life-long Lee's Summit resident and is active in her community. She is a member of Rotary International and volunteers at the Rotary Youth Camp, Special Olympics and Salvation Army. She has been appointed by the Jackson County Executive to serve on various high profile commissions and served on the Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street Board of Directors Nominating Committee.

Judge Altieri has taught courses to legal professionals and serves as a court-appointed guardian ad litem, representing abused and neglected children in the Kansas City area. In 2015, Judge Altieri was inducted into the Lee's Summit High School Hall of Fame for her personal and professional accomplishments.

Judge Altieri is a member of the Missouri Bar, Missouri Municipal and Associate Circuit Judges Association, Kansas Bar Association, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Bar Leadership Academy, Eastern Jackson County Bar Association, Federal Court Advocates, the Inn of the Court and Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity where she has served as president.

Judge Altieri graduated from the University of Missouri in 1998, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in history. In 2001, she received her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. She is also a graduate of the study abroad program at Peking University - Beijing, China, and served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Jay A. Daugherty of the Jackson County Circuit Court in Kansas City, Missouri from 2001 through 2003.

Venessa J. Maxwell-Lopez

The Honorable Venessa J. Maxwell-Lopez was elected municipal judge of the Lee’s Summit Municipal Court on April 2, 2024. Judge Maxwell-Lopez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwest Missouri State University with a double major in Spanish and Political Science and her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri -Kansas City School of Law.

She has resided in Lee’s Summit for 28 years and is active in the community. She is a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, the Lee’s Summit Rotary and just recently participated in and graduated from the Leadership Lee’s Summit program. Her memberships afford her many opportunities to volunteer in and serve the community.

Prior to being elected, she served for over 8 years as a Drug Commissioner on the Jackson County Combat Commission and for over 7 years as a Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the Jackson County Merit Commission.

Judge Maxwell-Lopez frequently teaches continuing legal education courses to other attorneys and has taught courses for the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Clay County Bar Association and the Eastern Jackson County Bar Association.

She is fluent in Spanish and represented the U.S. at the 1992 World’s Fair in Seville, Spain working in the United States Pavilion during Expo 1992.

She is a member of both the Kansas and Missouri Bar and the Missouri Municipal and Associate Circuit Judges Association.
