Keep Cool When It's Hot

Admission fees into Legacy Park, Gamber and Harris Park Community Centers will be reduced to half price on all days the National Weather Service issues Excessive Heat Warnings for the months June, July and August. During business hours, Mid-Continent Libraries are also good cooling centers. Call United Way 2-1-1 for assistance or information about public cooling centers.

If you are in need of minor exterior home repairs or minor private sanitary sewer improvements, the City’s Minor Home Repair program might be right for you.  Applicants must meet income guidelines and could be eligible for repairs not to exceed $10,000 per household for home repairs and $3,000 per household for private sanitary sewer improvements.  The City is accepting applications for this program from August 14 through September 29, 2017.

Only single-family, owner-occupied, residential homes are eligible for this program.  The emphasis of this program is neighborhood conservation, therefore only minor exterior home repairs and minor private sanitary sewer improvements are eligible for funding, such as:

  • windows and doors
  • roof
  • paint 
  • porches and steps
  • foundation repairs
  • exterior walls and trim
  • flashing and guttering
  • private sanitary sewer repairs
         (lateral repair/backwater valves)

Low-to-moderate income homeowners are eligible based on total household income and must fall within the following HUD guidelines:

The applicant will be required to contribute a share of the repair cost.  The homeowner’s contribution will not be below $20 or above $500, and will be scaled based on income and cost of repairs.

The maximum grant amount is $10,000 per household for home repairs or $3,000 per household for private sanitary sewer improvements.  The City will prioritize applications based on the greatest need in terms of household income and needed repairs.  All repairs are subject to federal environmental regulation & lead-based paint compliance.

To be eligible for this program, you must reside within the city limits of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
