Dealing with Pets and Wildlife in the Heat

Like people, animals are sensitive to extremes in environmental conditions. The extended run of high temperatures along with the drought conditions we are experiencing can pose a real threat to pets and wild animals. The Animal Control Division of the Lee’s Summit Police Department would like to offer these tips

Boil Advisory Issued for Oaks Ridge Meadows area

The City of Lee’s Summit’s Water Utilities Department is issuing a boil advisory effective immediately for the Oaks Ridge Meadows area due to loss of water pressure from a water main break Monday evening.

Customers in the Oaks Ridge Meadows subdivision off Anderson Drive are advised to boil all drinking water.

City Amends Mandatory Water Restrictions

The City of Lee’s Summit has amended the mandatory watering restrictions currently in effect to allow an address-based approach for the use of lawn sprinklers and irrigation systems. This ongoing measure is necessary in order to ensure an adequate balance is maintained between water demands and water storage levels during this period of high temperatures and drought-like conditions.

This approach will allow customers with even-numbered addresses to begin using lawn sprinklers or irrigation systems on even-numbered calendar days, while customers with odd-numbered addresses may use lawn sprinklers and irrigation systems on odd-numbered calendar days.

Beat the Heat Policy in Effect on Extreme Heat Advisory Days

The Lee's Summit Park Board has enacted the Beat the Heat Policy for the department to be in effect on days the National Weather Service issues an Extreme Heat Advisory for the area. This policy reduces single visit fees to Legacy Park Community Center and Gamber Center to half price (50% off the applicable fee, Regular or Discounted Single Visit).

Lee's Summit Implements Mandatory Water Restrictions

The Mayor has issued an emergency proclamation enacting mandatory water restrictions. Water customers are being directed not to irrigate lawns with sprinklers or other soaking devices.
Due to increased water demands, decreasing storage levels, and the failure of a major Kansas City supply line, the City of Lee’s Summit is faced with a significant reduction in the supply of water and is now requiring customers to cease the irrigation of lawns with sprinklers or soaker hoses.
