City Organizes Stream Team Event for October 14 at Deer Valley Park

In an effort to keep our streams clean, the City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department is organizing a “Stream Team” to clean up litter from the creek in Deer Valley Park, 1400 NE Neawanna Dr., Lee’s Summit.

Trash and other materials dumped on stream banks, such as yard waste, threatens the water quality of streams by decomposing and eliminating critical, life-giving oxygen from the water. Trash is not only collected by stormwater and transported to nearby lakes and streams, it frequently contains toxic materials that can pollute lakes and streams.  This is why volunteer efforts are so important to our community.

Please join our volunteer efforts at this important stream team clean-up event scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the park. Student and Boy/Girl Scout community service hours will be available. Court-ordered community service will not be offered at this event.

The Stream Team will meet at Deer Valley Park at 10 a.m. where the volunteers will receive instructions and supplies consisting of gloves and trash bags. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m. at the park.  Prizes will be awarded for collecting the most unique items!

Come out and help us keep our community beautiful.

For more information about the “Public Works Stream Team” or to volunteer, please contact the Public Works Department at (816) 969-1800.
