The Lee’s Summit Police Department recently released a short video with helpful reminders about school bus safety. The video was produced in cooperation with the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and is designed to eliminate driver confusion when flashing yellow lights are displayed and the stop arm is extended. Drivers are sometimes confused as to when to stop, especially when there are multiple lanes of traffic.
“Reminding the community to slow down and stay alert around school buses is the first step in ensuring safety for students,” said Lee’s Summit Police Chief Joe Piccinini. “Our officers will be working directly with the community and the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District to identify violators who do not stop for school buses.”
The video demonstrates real school bus traffic scenarios and provides citizens with simple instructions on when to stop for school buses in multiple lanes of traffic.
