There will be a community-wide ceremony in Lee’s Summit to honor those who perished on September 11, 2001 and to remember the impact of this tragic event on our nation. “A Time of Reflection: Ten Year Memorial Ceremony” will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2011 on the City Hall Plaza, 220 S.E. Green St.
The ceremony will include welcoming remarks by Lee’s Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads, music by the “Men of Note” choir, an offering of prayers and candle lighting for First Responders, Loved Ones Lost and World Peace from area ministers. A combined Honor Guard of Lee’s Summit’s Police and Fire departments will present the flags and the Pledge of Allegiance will be performed by the Lee’s Summit VFW Post 5789.
The City will also have on display a World Trade Center artifact. Details on the arrival and placement of the artifact will be announced soon.
The event will be held in Lee’s Summit City Hall if it rains or there are very warm temperatures that evening.
The ceremony is sponsored by the Lee’s Summit Tribune, Ministerial Alliance, City of Lee’s Summit Retiree Chapter and the City of Lee’s Summit.
