2024 FIRE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT

I am honored to reflect on the remarkable achievements, challenges and growth we’ve experienced as a department in 2024. This year has exemplified the Lee’s Summit Fire Department’s commitment to professionalism, respect, integrity, duty and excellence. Together, we have upheld our mission to serve our community through prevention, preparedness and response.

In 2024, the Fire Department achieved several milestones to enhance its service to the community. These included completing a live fire training facility with various training props, finishing construction of replacement Fire Stations No. 4 and No. 5, and initiating design work to replace Fire Station No. 1 and a new Joint Operations Center. The department expanded its ambulance fleet to 11, implemented electronic dispatch systems and partnered with the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District on a fire science career pathway program.

Other accomplishments included acquiring property for future Fire Station No. 8, transitioning to proactive policymaking through Lexipol, enhancing personnel mental wellness support with 42 CARES and progressing toward delivery of nine pumpers and an IP-based station alerting system. Additionally, the department collaborated with the Center for Public Safety Excellence to complete a Community Risk Assessment Standard of Cover and continued implementing goals from its Accreditation Peer Assessment and Strategic Plan.

While these projects represent significant advancements, our most outstanding achievements lie in the growth and development of our personnel. This year, our team members excelled in their onboarding processes, completed year-one training programs, graduated from paramedic and engineer schools, earned advanced degrees and celebrated well-deserved promotions. These accomplishments highlight the dedication and excellence of our exceptional team.

While celebrating our successes, we also pause to remember the profound losses we have endured. The passing of active member Captain Gene Martin and several of our retirees has left a lasting impact on our department. Their dedication, contributions and camaraderie will never be forgotten. We honor their memories by carrying forward the values they exemplified and continue to serve our community with passion and integrity.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. I am humbled and honored to lead such an extraordinary team.

Chief Mike Snider
