Purpose
Housing Authorities are subsidiaries of the federal government and follow specific regulations and guidelines, as set forth by the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD). HUD delegates the administration of these agencies to a local authority. By-laws, adopted by the authority, enumerate the duties of the officers of the Housing Authority. The Lee's Summit Housing Authority (LSHA) is a municipal corporation founded under Missouri law that administers federal funding to affordable housing programs in Lee's Summit.
The mission of the LSHA is to advocate for affordable housing and respond to unmet housing needs through new construction, restoration of existing assets, and the pursuit of new development opportunities and partnerships. In order to do so, the Authority oversees the Lea Haven and Duncan Estates housing projects, as well as the Section 8 Housing Voucher program within the community.
Membership and Commitment
Membership to the Board of Housing Authority Commissioners is comprised of five members who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council to serve four-year terms. Meetings are typically held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 P.M. at the Lea Haven housing project.
