Biographical Statement: Anastacia Drake is a Kansas City-based artist known for her heavy-textured paintings that explore the connection between nature and personal experience. She discovered art as a child, using it as a means of processing her environment. Her work evolved through international artist residencies in Hungary, Italy, and Bali, where she developed her signature tactile style, influenced by her work with visually impaired children. Anastacia has exhibited worldwide and created public art projects, including murals and installations. Her work aims to foster connection, accessibility, and dialogue through rich, layered compositions that invite sensory engagement.
Artist's Statement: As a Kansas City-based artist, my practice is rooted in the exploration of nature and personal experience. My early work was a means of processing challenging circumstances, and over time, it has evolved into a deep connection with the natural world, which I incorporate into my textured, vibrant paintings. My travels and artist residencies in Hungary, Italy, and Bali have enriched my style, particularly after working with visually impaired children, which led to my signature heavy-textured approach. Through my art, I seek to create a sensory experience that invites reflection and connection with nature. Public art, including murals and installations, plays an important role in my work as I strive to make art accessible to diverse audiences and engage communities in dialogue.

What is your experience in the Public Arts: * Created murals for the city of Yates Center. They were funded by the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission Grant. * Painted a library book return box also in the city of Yates Center. * Created a Peace Pole for the City of Lenexa * Was selected to participate in the Parade of Hearts in Kansas City * Painted a live mural for the City of Newton, KS through the Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival.
Social Practice Artist: I am passionate about bringing color, texture, and community connection to public spaces. My interests include large-scale murals, painting utility boxes, creating hanging or suspended art for new developments, and designing site-specific commissioned pieces. I enjoy developing artwork that reflects the character of its surroundings while inviting curiosity, interaction, and a sense of place.
