Public Artist Roster

Arts and Culture maintains a Public Artist Roster to select artists for new projects.

The Public Artist Roster will be used for the following:

  • Permanent artwork that can be site responsive and/or site integrated. Artists for these projects would work closely with the project design team to develop public artwork in interior or exterior locations. Artists selected for these projects generally have examples of past work within the public art field.  
  • Temporary artwork that can be site-responsive and created with materials that have a shorter lifespan. Examples of this would be the Downtown Sculpture Walk, Rotating Art Exhibitions and more. 
  • Design-only artwork is site-specific and has a scope in which the artist creates the design for the artwork. The City of Lee's Summit would be responsible for the fabrication with another entity. 
  • Social Practice is an art medium that focuses on engagement through human interaction and social discourse. It can include participatory art and socially engaged art. Past experiences and proposed projects can also be included.

Biographical Statement: Ashlee Burlile is a Kansas City native with a creative spark for all things art. She also enjoys a wide variety of activities from video games and reading, to spending time with her partner, step-son, and two playful dogs. Though she’s been drawing and painting since childhood, she’s recently fallen head over heels for pottery. Now, she mixes her love for painting with her pottery skills; crafting unique, functional ceramics that are as artistic as they are useful.

Artist's Statement: I’m Ashlee Burlile, an artist whose work centers on functional ceramics, though my roots run deep in drawing, painting, and illustration, which I still explore alongside my ceramic practice. I create pieces that evoke warm, cozy feelings, aiming to bring comfort and personality into everyday life. My art is deeply inspired by nature. Im inspired by organic shapes, soothing color palettes, and the play of light. I find beauty in the natural world and translate that sense of calm and connection into each piece I create.

Project Preference: Functional pottery, Small Scale Murals, Custom Art

What is your experience in the Public Arts: I have completed a couple of murals, both for business and personal use. I participate in art markets across the city and collaborate with businesses.
