RecycleFest

RecycleFest is scheduled for 9 a.m. - noon on Saturday, April 25, at the City Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road. This free event offers Lee’s Summit residents an opportunity to dispose of a variety of items that can be recycled and refurbished, reducing harm to the environment and saving landfill space. Items include adult bicycles, cell phones, rechargeable batteries, eyeglasses and crayons. Residents can bring up to four paper grocery bags of sensitive documents per household to be shredded and recycled. For more information, visit GreenLS.

Drop-off Recycling

Drop-off recycling is available at the South Recycling Center in the City's Resource Recovery Park, 2011 SE Hamblen Road. The South Recycling Center is operated by the City's contractor Summit Transfer. There is no fee to utilize this service.

Hours of operation:
Monday - Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Saturday: 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. 

The following materials are accepted:

  • Tin, aluminum and steel cans.
  • No. 1 and No. 2 plastics (water bottles, plastic milk jugs, detergent bottles, etc.).
  • Cardboard (flattened, no food or grease contamination).
  • Glass (with lids removed from cans and jars).
  • Paper, paperboard, newspaper, magazines (not shredded).
  • Paper milk and juice cartons.

Please rinse containers.

Curbside Recycling

Residents may hire the curbside recycling hauler of their choice. Monthly rates vary from hauler to hauler. All licensed residential trash haulers are required to offer curbside recycling services to residents if requested.

Haulers must collect the following items in their curbside recycling program:

  • Aluminum and tin cans.
  • No. 1 and No. 2 plastic beverage and food containers.
  • Newsprint.

Haulers must also offer one or more of the following items in their curbside recycling program:

  • Clear, green and brown glass containers. 
  • Magazines.
  • Mixed/office paper.
  • Corrugated cardboard and paperboard (i.e., cereal boxes, etc.).
  • Plastic beverage and food containers No. 3 through No. 7.

Household Food Waste Composting

For a fee of $2 per bucket, bring food waste in buckets of three to five gallons to the Resource Recovery Park. Food waste goes directly to the compost pile, keeping it out of landfills and transforming it into nutrient-rich compost.
