Biographical Statement: Emily Alvarez is an artist of Dominican and Cuban descent from the Southwestern suburbs of Miami. Emily utilizes illustration to synthesize her fascination with design and storytelling. Her work in the public art field has been featured on PBS, NPR and Telemundo, and enjoys creating fine art, comics, design work and a variety of published illustration work in the Kansas City area. Artist's Statement: Emily implements narrative illustration to depict themes such as disquietude and internal transformation through imagery inspired by sociology and folk tales. She primarily enjoys indulging in lively compositions, vivacious color, and exaggerated motion in order to instill her work with vigorous energy. These elements converge in the mediums of digital painting, acrylic painting, murals and comics. Her work is greatly informed and inspired by her passion for animation and comics. Her work invites viewers to stretch the limits of their imagination.

What is your experience in the Public Arts: I have seven years of experience with public art installations including one painted board installation, fourteen interior and exterior murals and one plexiglass installation. My public art work until now all exists within Kansas City, Overland Park, Lee's Summit, Roeland Park and Merriam, and I have been commissioned by a variety of entities from private businesses to city art counsels. My largest mural until now is 62 feet in length and I have some experience with heavy equipment or machinery to achieve elevation.
