Drip Edge

Drip Edge, 2018
Craig Snyder, Plymouth, MN
Painted Steel

Snyder has experimented with cubes in many ways. Drip Edge incorporates the idea of “exploded” cubes – six sides arranged in an increasingly non-cubic manner. And in keeping with the name, paint is heavily applied to get interesting drips and runs.
Artist Statement: Craig was bitten by the metal bug in the early 2000s and has since completed numerous sculptures and public art commissions. He works primarily with steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, stone, and wood, often combining materials to create durable, visually engaging works suited for public environments. Color plays an important role in his practice, with paint and vibrant patinas used to create strong visual presence and long-term appeal. Craig is drawn to sculpture for its clarity and directness, and he strives to create work that is approachable, engaging, and accessible to a broad audience. He values public art for its ability to exist in everyday life, where people can encounter it organically and build their own connections to it over time. His goal is to create memorable, site-responsive work that contributes positively to the shared civic space.
