Public Artist Roster

Arts and Culture maintains a Public Artist Roster to select artists for new projects.

The Public Artist Roster will be used for the following:

  • Permanent artwork that can be site responsive and/or site integrated. Artists for these projects would work closely with the project design team to develop public artwork in interior or exterior locations. Artists selected for these projects generally have examples of past work within the public art field.
  • Temporary artwork that can be site-responsive and created with materials that have a shorter lifespan. Examples of this would be the Downtown Sculpture Walk, Rotating Art Exhibitions and more.
  • Design-only artwork is site-specific and has a scope in which the artist creates the design for the artwork. The City of Lee's Summit would be responsible for the fabrication with another entity.
  • Social Practice is an art medium that focuses on engagement through human interaction and social discourse. It can include participatory art and socially engaged art. Past experiences and proposed projects can also be included.

Biographical Statement: Stephanie is a Lees Summit based digital and traditional artist whose artwork explores the combination of folk art, children’s storybooks, and the natural world around her. Stephanie and her family travel often and she uses her skills in photography to capture inspiring images that she brings back home to use in her artwork. She works primarily in acrylic paint as well as digital illustrations to create artwork that pushes the viewer to view the natural world as something that is wonderful and worth caring for. Stephanie has had her work displayed in several galleries including Art on Broadway and has exhibited several times with the Lees Summit Fourth Friday Art Walks. Her most recent work includes a heart titled “The Night the Rabbits Danced with the Moon” for the 2026 Parade of Hearts and she is currently working on a design for the Johnson County Park and Rec Park Poster Collection.

Artist's Statement: My body of work draws inspiration from my calling to protect the natural world around me. For the last decade I have worked in various fields of conservation, including working at a Missouri State Park, conducting research with the Missouri Department of Conservation, and working in private stream and wetland conservation. During this last decade of work in conservation I have taken so much inspiration from the work that I was able to do. I have taken these experiences and used them to create works of art that I hope goes on to inspire the same type of awe and wonder that I felt. I love to use a combination of folk art and the stylings of children’s storybooks to help put the viewer back into that state of childlike awe that many of us seem to lose as we grow up. I want those who view my artwork to feel like they can slow down, view the world around them with a renewed sense of wonder, and connect with the earth beneath their feet.

Experience Level: 4-7 years

Project Preference: Digital designs, physical murals, will work with any public department especially the parks department

What is your experience in the Public Arts: My latest two project have been public facing projects. I created a heart for the 2026 Parade of Hearts, it is currently on display at the Weatherby Lake City Hall. I am also currently designing a park poster with Johnson County Parks and Recreation.
