Volunteer Opportunities

The City offers several Environmentally-related opportunities to volunteer, as indicated below.

Electronics Recycling Event

MANY, MANY, MANY volunteers are needed to help unload cars and direct traffic for our semi-annual Electronics Recycling Events held at the Lee's Summit High School. Not only will you aid in keeping harmful components from entering our landfills, you will get a little bit of a work out and meet other great volunteers in our community! Lunch is provided and non-court-ordered community service hours are available.

Stream Team

In an effort to support the Missouri Stream Team program, the Public Works Department has created the Public Works Stream Team to clean up the banks of Cedar Creek twice a year (early Spring and late Fall) and increase water quality awareness.  Lunch is provided and non-court-ordered community service hours are available.

Sweep the Summit

To celebrate Earth Day, the City of Lee's Summit, the Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Department, and the Beautification Commission, host their annual Sweep the Summit litter cleanup event at a local City Park.  Lunch is provided and prizes are awarded for the most unusual items collected.  Non-court-ordered community service hours are available.

South Recycling Center

Volunteers are needed to assist patrons with proper sorting of their recyclable materials and breaking down cardboard boxes at the South Recycling Center.  Non-court-ordered community service hours are available.

Outdoor Classroom

The City is creating an Outdoor Classroom in and around the island at the North Recycling Center.  Volunteers are needed to help complete the plantings and maintain the flower and edible garden beds.  Non-court-ordered community service hours are available.

Adopt-A-Street

Any individual, group, or organization can apply to adopt at least 1 mile of street in Lee's Summit.  Following application approval, the City will provide bags and safety vests for all workers and the City will pickup the bags following each event.  Visit the City's Adopt-A-Street page or contact the Public Works Operations Division at 969-1870 for more information.
