UPDATES!!
On March 4, 2010, the City Council directed city staff to issue the state-required two-year notice to all solid waste haulers providing services in the City that the City is considering a citywide comprehensive curbside recycling plan. The comprehensive plan currently proposed by city staff includes a volume-based pricing trash service with unlimited, free curbside recycling and could include volume-based yard waste services, as well. Under the volume-based plan, residents would only pay for the amount of trash they discard; similar to a utility (water, sewer, gas, electric, etc.). Under this proposed plan, if residents want to pay less for trash service, they could recycle more to reduce their volume of trash discarded.
The City Council directed city staff to develop and present details of the proposed plan within 60 days of the March 4, 2010 City Council meeting.
Please check back periodically to learn more about the status of curbside recycling in Lee's Summit.
