Ongoing Activities

Adopt-a-Street

The City's Adopt-a-Street program is a volunteer effort to collect litter and debris from specific segments of city-owned streets and right-of-ways. Volunteers must complete an Adopt-a-Street application and return it to Public Works before a street segment is assigned. The streets available to adopt are updated periodically. Volunteers who collect litter at least four times yearly will receive a certificate of appreciation and recognition on a City 'Adopt' sign posted on each segment end. The City will provide trash bags and collect full bags upon completion.

Contact Public Works at 816.969.1800 or email if interested in these volunteer opportunities.

Adopters must:

  • Select an available adoptable street segment.
  • Collect litter at least four times per year.
  • Submit an activity report to Public Works by email or call 816.969.1800.
  • Follow all safety procedures.

For litter/trash clean-up opportunities along Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) highways and roadways, visit Adopt-a-Highway or Sponsor-a-Highway for more information.

Individuals or groups of volunteers must complete a short application and Hold Harmless agreement before checking out a storm drain stenciling kit, that includes a map of the designated stenciling area. Kits and maps must be returned within a week of checkout. Student and scout community service hours are available. Court-ordered community service hours are not offered for this program.
