Lee's Summit Wins Highest National Award for Parks & Recreation

Oct 2010: The National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) in partnership with the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) bestowed its highest national award, the Gold Medal Award, to the Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Department October 27 at NRPA's Congress and Exposition in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Read more.

City of Lee’s Summit takes 3rd place in Digital Cities Survey!

Nov 2010: The tenth annual Digital Cities Survey ranked Lee’s Summit as the third most advanced digital city in America (population category 75,000-125,000)!  The annual survey evaluates how information technology is incorporated into government operations to better serve our community. Read more.

2010 Missouri Arts Award for “Creative Community”

The prestigious honor was given by the Missouri Arts Council, a division of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Missouri Arts Awards honor individuals and organizations that have made profound and lasting contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state. Read more.

Capstone Award for Infrastructure

As a result of the I-470 and 350/50 Highway Interchange project, two half-diamond interchanges were constructed, Pryor Road and Blue Parkway, which opened up approximately 150 acres of commercial land for new development and improved access to two regional shopping centers with 1.2 million square feet of retail space.  Read more.

Lee's Summit receives Fall 2010 Honorable Mention!  www.bikeleague.org   The application was submitted by the Livable Streets Planning Committee.

Fastest growing Cities in America 

According to BusinessWeek magazine, Lees Summit made the list because “both businesses and residents have come to Lee's Summit for its exceptional quality of life. The town has miles of trails for recreational use and dozens of parks.” Lee’s Summit is one of the fastest growing cities in the state of Missouri and has a population of more than 91,000 residents. Barbara Potts Award

The Lee's Summit Police Department was recognized with the "Barbara Potts Award* from Hope House, along with Raytown.  Both the Lee’s Summit and Raytown Police departments formed domestic violence units with one detective in 1997. Now, over a decade later, Lee’s Summit has expanded to two detectives who continue to operate and work collaboratively with Hope House. Read more.

Fleet Masters Award

City of Lee’s Summit Fleet Division was awarded the 2006 Fleet Masters Award.  This award was sponsored by the Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) which recognizes top private and public fleets for their “innovative practices.
