On Thanksgiving there are three times more kitchen fires than any other day of the year. According to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) on Thanksgiving Day in 2008 fire departments across the nation responded to over 1,300 kitchen fires, well above the average of about 420 on a regular day.

The tenth annual Digital Cities Survey ranked Lee’s Summit as the third most advanced digital city in America (population category 75,000-125,000)!  The annual survey evaluates how information technology is incorporated into government operations to better serve our community. 

The Lee’s Summit Fire Department has lifted the burn ban for the City of Lee’s Summit and will begin issuing Recreational/Cooking Fire Permits as long as conditions continue to improve. The fire department wants to remind residents that the burning of leaves, brush, and trash is always prohibited.

In an effort to keep our streams and parks clean of debris, the City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department, in partnership with the Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation Department and the Beautification Commission, is organizing a combined “Sweep the Summit” and “Stream Team” event at Deer Valley Park.
